We get lots of questions being asked on a day to day basis. Here are our most frequently asked questions....
Can I mix two different coloured creams together? Yes, you can mix different colours of the henna creams together to create your own desired colour. How often can / should I use henna? You can use henna as many times as you want. Due to its natural ingredients and conditioning properties it will just keep on coating your hair with colour. The more often you use henna the richer the colour will become.
Does henna lighten hair? No, henna only darkens hair it CANNOT lighten hair. Can henna be used on chemically straightened / bleached hair? Yes, In fact using henna on chemically straightened or bleached hair helps the hair to repair damage that the straightening or bleaching process has caused. Henna coats the hair in colour rather than stripping it back like chemical methods that contain ammonia and PPD.
I notice a lot of colour coming out of my hair while in the shower, is this normal? Yes, Henna hair dyes are a semi permanent hair colour treatment, meaning they will eventually wash out. We recommend colouring your hair with henna once every 2-3 weeks to keep on top of the colour and prevent any roots/grey hair from showing. Colour is best maintained by using specific shampoos and conditioners. We recommend using a mild shampoo for best results between dyeing. Take a look at our Henne Henna and Surya ranges of maintenance shampoos, conditioners, hair masks and colour fixation products these are designed to prolong and condition your colour.
Is there any special way to apply henna hair dye? Everyone has their own tried and tested methods when it comes to applying henna at home. We recommend giving your hair a thorough wash with shampoo before applying to remove any dirt or hair products, do not condition your hair at this stage, just towel dry ready for the application of your colour. If you are using a cream in a bottle, wearing gloves, apply directly to the hair from the bottle or pour into a bowl and use an application brush, apply in sections until you have completely covered your hair, cover with the plastic cap and secure with a clip, leave it on for between 45 minutes - 1 hour or longer if you have time - the longer the better. Once you are happy you have had the colour on your hair long enough and are ready for rinsing its always best to emulsify the colour around the hairline and scalp by slightly damping and gently rubbing to loosen the colour (this prevents staining around the hairline and scalp) then rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear, no need to shampoo, you can now use a conditioner if required otherwise just style as normal and enjoy the beautiful results. If you are using henna powder; once you have mixed the powder to a paste with hot water and allowed it to cool then apply as above.
